Why does it say we only have 658mb of memory?

There are two kernels loaded into memory, and only one being used. That's what Kexec is, executing one kernel over the other.

Tried this for about 2 hours. It is choppy when it comes to scrolling. And there are plenty of bugs. I expect it though it is not fully done. But I had to switch back i do use the camera a lot.

I'm going to assume he did not. The thing is, the XDA lets anyone post dev info on facebook with one click and everyone's cool with that. Hashcode updates his work on Twitter and people re-post it like wildfire. This dude is just sharing info. Hes not taking credit at all and clearly has provided links. Some developers seem to get mad about this but in a way it just makes them Hippocrates. They are working with open source code. everyone shares and exchanges the info. yet they do a 360 and pull an apple, disapproving of re-posting open source work made on open source programs. and in the same breath they complain about Motorola. a company who locks boot loaders of phones they design. much like how some devs want to lock down the rom they built to a specific site. but dont care if it goes on facebook, twitter, digg, engadget, droid-life ect. shall we say its anti-competitive behavior??? Then again, its probably for quality control, but isn't that the reason moto locks bootloaders? not that hashcode would do that. Hes been amazing since I got my Kindle Fire last year. I remember when he opened up his kindle and attached wires to the motherboard just to build a kernel. that takes dedication and I have much respect for him. "rant over" Keep in mind this is my opinion and opinions are just that. eveyone has one and they all differ. Perhaps I'm wrong, as other valid reasons could be at play. perhaps I'm not.

You're looking way too much into my comment. I was asking if he had his permission because of the fact that dhacker and hashcode0f might not want multiple threads of their ROM out so that they can minimize how much traffic they need to follow for bug reports and such. My comment had nothing to do with open source or anything.

Maybe there is a way to not load any hw or modules on the original kernel since they are stored in /system. We have two partitions now so why not a third that can swap out the mods for the second kernel. At least that will save on some ram. Sounds like it could be done if hash altered SS.

I'd think the easier route might be purging the old data from memory after boot.

Possibly, but even if so that would also depend on what all things the kexec exploit made possible. I'm thinking however that the bootloader does its verification at boot, not down the line. This would be getting more into the hardware/software integration level of things where my knowledge becomes sketchy so I could be completely off base as well. I deeply understand the physical level and the code level, but as we get to machine code level I tend to leave it to the pros rather than break my toys :)

Well than that means all the ram is used right from the get go. How can an 8 mb partition use so much ram like that just to call another kernel...? Or maybe it is the new kernel that is the hog.

Just thinking out loud.

From my trial so far, it seems that the kexec kernel isn't allowing for deep sleep. Just lost 22% battery in one hour.

I lost 16% battery in 4 hours. and I've been using it quite a bit cause I had to get all my stuff set up.
