Similar to my reasons - easier to get thinner part in and big part at the top makes it easier to pull out, a little like a handle. Also because of the headphone jack as well.Headphone jack up always, mostly because I'm using the first Droid Razr with a slightly thicker 'top' so I pinch the phone by that and slide the bottom into my pocket each time.
If I have looser pants I tend to put the phone in top first.
I end up with screen facing towards me when I put it in either way though. I don't think I ever put it in so the screen is facing away from myself.
On the other hand, anyone hold their phone with the headphone jack to the right when holding it sideways? (I hold it the other way), with the jack facing left, volume keys up

…Although it's a fairly minor thing it's sparked debates in multiple forums across my daily view over the last year or so. So here I pose the question to you guys. Do you put your phone in your pocket upright or upside down? This obviously influences many people's preference on location f the headphone jack and I'm curious to see if it's heavily slanted one way or the other. Me personally? Upright.
Sideways, in a belt holster, screen facing into my right hip w/jack on the left.

but when I'm in uniform it goes straight up, glass facing inward in my right breast pocket. Makes it easier to pull out to check clock and notifications. Glass inward so i don't scratch the screen crawling through bilges or climbing on engines.
Nice. Navy here, also.
