You will lose root when you upgrade .... you must protect root using voodoo.... then restore root using voodoo after JB upgrade.....

I have each time and it hasnt worked. Once it upgrades, it becomes rooted, and the root apps become useless.

Cant use Voodoo after JB b/c it is then rooted again.

RE: DROID RAZR HD Utility 1.10
Thank you for the above instructions. I am not an expert, so be easy on me please. I rooted 2 previous Motorola phones, but Maxx HD has been the most difficult. I have succeeded several times with reverting back to ICS following the directions above-followed instructions for Voodoo Rootkeeper & Safestrap. Once I updated to JB I would lose root.I gave up for a while hoping that a better option for rooting JB would come along... it hasnt. I did the above again, and it went better this time, but I am now stuck. I cant seem to find clarification on whether I can have root on JB. Can someone help me get to the next step. TY

Verizon
Motorola
Droid Razr Maxx HD xt926
ICS 4.0.4

forget safestrap you don't need it unless you want to do roms for now just just at 4.04 install voodo unroot do the update
then you will or may loose voodo innthe update process just download it from the play store aand then root it and then go to su
and update binaries then clear voodo for su and you should be good even though you may loose voodo root may still be there you just need to download voodo again to obtain root...let me know

Do it now you may not be able to later

I have root now, followed the Utility instructions above back on ICS, I have followed instructions for Safestrap & Voodoo. I have lost root each time I updated to JB. If it is genuinely possible to keep root with JB, I would like to know how and what I am doing wrong. I have researched this for a while...so many inconsistencies out there online & I dont always fully understand the tech talk..

I dont want to go any further, as I have wasted so much time on this until I can attempt to find out what I need to do.

you have to loose root to update turn root off with voodo
then after updating load voodo again and turn root back on
if you don't turn off, with voodo, root then update you will loose root
Do it now you may not be able to later

I dont know how to root JB, I can only get it by reverting back to ICS, that is what I am trying to do. Could you message me? I cant send messages yet.

Ok lets try and get ya going you can uze the utility to get back to ICS Then you root uzing utility ck with root checker says you have root then you get voodoo root keeper from market or wherever. Get it set up press temp unroot. Then go to about phone ck for updates it says you have one you take it. That will be firzr security update. Open phone go to voodoo press root then ck root ckecker make sure your still rootex if you are go back to voodoo un root again. Go to about phone again take another update. When its done open phone go to voodoo again. Press root your done. Then you can get safe strap.

I tried..The part where I update to JB is where I am running into problems. I lost my root, and the apps that require root like voodoo have reset. I was able to save a titanium back up before the update, but I am not sure if that would work even if I knew what to do as far as restoring the back up, that will be my next mission. TY
