Motorola XT926 Locked on Boot Screen, Won't Power Off

XT926 Boot Issue

Best Answer SamuriHL , 01 October 2014 - 12:00 PM

It can't write to the phone. We've seen this issue before and there's zero way to fix it.  I hate to say that, but, this is a very ugly problem.  Sorry you went through all that for no solution, but, the phone is basically screwed up at the partition level.  And yours is not the only one like that.  No one's ever fixed one to my knowledge.

Me personally, I use KALI Linux for almost everything (its a more, shall we say, "advanced" distro ) its primarily for security and penetration testing and development................ probably not a good choice for you to use with HoM as it requires some extra knowledge

Talk about little or no expirence, I had no idea it would be this complicated. I'm in the live session running off the flash drive at the moment. It's not what I was hoping for that's for sure. I just keep running into walls. None of the files I placed on the flash drive are visible. Probably bull$#!+ from microsoft making the files unreadable outside the windows environment or something to do with it being on a flash drive. Thankfully I can see my hard drives and my user data from windows, so I can access the files there. Unforntuantly the HouseOfMoto.sh file does not run as I expected, it just brings up the script itself. Which is not useful in this case.

I finally found the terminal application and even navigated to files I copied over to the Unbuntu live file system. I placed the files in the music directory because I can not figure out how to move up and down the directories. cd.. didn't work. I would hate using this operating system everyday. Yet when I try to run the .sh script the OS does not understand what I'm talking about. It will not excute or run in any fashion. I know this is all from my lack of understanding of how this operating environment works.

Perhaps since I've copied the files while the live file system is running it will let me change the properties so the OS will stop blocking the script.

There are two ways to get the HoM.sh to run...... Right click on it and select properties..... Hit the permissions tab.......Towards the bottom of the window there will be a box that says "allow to be excetuted as a program" .... Check that box...... Or open a terminal window ..... CD (change directory ) to where the houseofmoto.sh is..... And type ... chmod a+x houseofmpto.sh .... hit enter..... What that does is changes the script to an executable (similar to the .bat file in windows)......

To find terminal..... Hit the alt key..... A search bar should appear at the top.... Just type in "terminal" (without the quotes).....

Yeah I figured out how to get in the terminal and I'm in the directory now. Going to try and set it properties, but if that don't stay checked off (it keeps unchecking itself) then I'll try the terminal command you just posted. I know your busy probably, but thank you for bearing with me as I fumble my way around here.

Alright the check box stayed this time, on the files I copied over to the flash drive while inside Unbuntu, but it still bring up gedit as the program of choice. Trying the command line option next.

99% of the time you will have to "chmod" anything that you copy over into Linux and want to run as executable..... In layman's terms.... Its a "safety" feature.....

In terminal I managed to make it at least seem like it was working. By this I mean I typed in chmod a+x HouseOfMoto.sh (has to be capital letters and must include the sh) but it just sat there and did nothing.

If there was an emoticon pulling it hair out of its head I would put that at the end of this sentence.

I give up John, this is just to much. I know what will happen, I'll eventally get it to run by some miniscule bit of luck only to have it have the same issue it was having under Windows. I really wanted to fix the phone but this is beyond my abilty. Thank you for trying though, I do apperciate your help.

In the computer world (especially a Unix environment) there is nothing more powerful than the terminal ..... From terminal, you can create, edit, delete virtually ALL aspects of the system...... Very very useful but also can be dangerous .....

I understand that completely. My brain is used to clicking or typing out a command and having it run and do something. The .sh file is not doing anything though. Trying to click n run doesn't do anything, its like Unbuntu dosen't know what file extension it is so it can't open it.

No I was saying "if I could get the command to run" I can't it to run. It's like Unbutu dosen't know how to open it. Terminal simply produces a new line with the current file system location, which allows me to enter the command again, and agin.

When I right click the .sh file the shell menu pops up and displays "open with" but all it has to open it is gedit, a notepad. What program do I need. I managed to install Java 6 on it, but what else should install?

That was my fault.... I should have told you that the chmod command won't actually run the file..... It simply changes the permissions of the file......

Ok the . makes a difference. Now terminal says "Please run as sudo. e.g. sudo ./HouseOfMoto.sh" and puts me back at a new line in the terminal. What does that mean, and please let me know if this getting on your nerves. This forum is for droid answers so I can understand if you don't want to keep this going.
