There is an app for that.

Actually there are several. I'll just link you to a Tom's Hardware page that has several links to try out. I think I've used 'TestDisk' in that past with success.

I wish you both luck in your recoveries. I did have a client use one of those professional companies and they were able to get back his data (68GB) for a mere $3,500. ouch.

Yeah for recovery of my 800 gb.... seagate wanted 3grand just to attempt recovery.... and the price would go up per gig recovered..... but its a matter of how much your data is worth to you..... you could have a chat with our good friend Google and look up scott moulton.... he is pretty much the authority on advanced and forensic data recovery.......

Recovering a partition is -not- what you want if the firmware delivers wrong data about the harddrive's properties to the system.

If your OS doesn't let you access the harddrive, have you tried flashing the drive's original FW ?

If not, send the Seagate your support your model/serial number and ask them to send you the latest firmware. They should do that.

See that's what I'm wondering BC I do know that the drivers/software was on this hard drive and runs and installs off of its self. So if that's gone then maybe that's why windows is telling me it's a 2tb drive bit it's only a 500gb....

Idk. I have very little knowledge on electronics and computers. I'll try some programs and contact Seagate.

Chances are the recovery programs may not work... your drive has to be recognized by the computer for most of them to work.... and the firmware is a different thing than the drivers..... the serial number and other information should be on a sticker on the drive itself.... so you may want to find them and check the link that was posted earlier to see if your firmware is available.....

As for you computer seeing it as a 2tb drive.... that could also be a result of corrupt firmware/other software on the drive itself....

Dude that really blows.... I still sympathize with you..... its NEVER easy to "lose" that much data.... a friend of mine "says" he has a device that can make an image of the individual platters.... and then at least some data can be recovered.... not sure whether to trust him opening up my HDD and removing the platters.... one wrong move and there is no chance of recovery period
