Worked perfectly! Thanks guys, I had been waiting for official JB to release before going root. This was a real easy process.

Ok so I uninstalled BMM, tried using quick boot app to boot into recovery on SafeStrap, still shows up at broken android, all I'm able to get into is stock recovery. Shouldn't it automatically boot into safe strap?

edit: tried re-installing safestrap, gives me this message: [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]

If safestrap already exists on my phone why wont it load? ugh this is frustrating, sorry about all the questions. I'm completely new to this, first time rooting a phone.

That app is always going to boot you to the stock recovery. We have a locked bootloader so we can't flash the recovery partition which is what that app boots to. The only way to get into safe strap is to shut the phone down and then restart it. Then you'll see the screen that allows you to get into safestrap. You can use the quick reboot app if you want to but can't choose reboot recovery. If you use it you have to choose normal reboot. Then you'll see the safestrap screen when it reboots.

What do steps 1 and 2 do? I had found the link to root my phone seperately so that's how I got it done prior to this thread. My phone was already on JB 4.1.2 from the OTA

Awesome, If your on the New OTA JB...All is Good...Step #1 or 2 is Irrevalant if you found another Source that works for you..

I've encountered the same exact problems as many others on this thread, specifically the "...DataClearJarDex .jar: No such file or directory" problem. No suggestion, that I've tried, has worked. Only thing I haven't done and I'm really, really trying to avoid is a factory reset. I tried running the exploit on one Windows 7 machine and also a Linux machine. I tried modifying the scripts waiting time when using the Linux script. I have smart actions version 4.2.2.4.2, but when I go to the play store on my phone it lists version 4.2.2.4.0 as the latest version. I don't have an option to uninstall updates for the smart actions app. Should I try to side load this older version from a backup? Would I even be able to do that without root?

Basically I want to avoid factory reset, so if anyone has suggestions it's greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I used this method to root my maxx a few days ago and it worked like a charm. However, I have encountered a problem that hopefully someone here can answer. After my device was rooted, I performed a FDR to clean up everything. My phone was working great and I installed all my apps back using TB. Anyways, here is my problem. When I turn my phone off now it enters a bootloop and will stay on the red eye. The only way to have my phone boot properly is to perform another FDR. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this or have similar problems? Thank you

Did you clear data on Smart actions??

Yup! Many times. Clear data each time I try. I just tried to "upgrade" (which was really a downgrade to an old version) smart actions and then "removing updates" to restore the app back to stock. This also did not help. I just keep getting:

Then I follow the Smart Action steps and after pressing enter get:

Later after "Cleaning up..." I get:

Most likely you aren't unzipping the file when you run it. Unzip the entire contents of the zip to a folder of your choice and then run the .bat file from that folder.

So I thought I had uninstalled Boot Menu Manager, since that will conflict with SafeStrap starting up. However, apparently I didn't. The app is uninstalled by just going into apps and choosing manage apps and uninstalling, but when I reboot, Boot menu is still there with options. How can I cleanly uninstall it?

edit: found out how, had to reinstall BMM and uninstall using it's built in "installer" feature. Manged to install SafeStrap from here and am currently backing up my Razr!!

As with others, I cannot seem to get the RAZR Blade app to root the phone. I got the OTA in March to an unrooted stock RAZR. I did not accept any Smart Actions updates (did not see any). I have cleared the Smart Actions data. I have USB Debugging enabled. USB connection is set to MTP (Media device) rather than Mass Storage.

As others show, I get this (pared down):

[*] Complete the following steps on your device:
[*] 1. Open the Smart Actions application.
[*] 2. Select Get Started.
[*] 3. Select Battery Saver.
[*] 4. Select Save.
[*] 5. Press the Home button.
[*]
[*] Press enter here once you have completed the above steps.
1468 KB/s (3477 bytes in 0.002s)
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase three (this will take a minute)...
failed on '/data/logger' - Permission denied
mkdir failed for /data/logger, File exists
Unable to chmod /data/logger: Operation not permitted
link failed File exists
[*] Rebooting device...
[*] Waiting for phone to reboot.
[*] Phase four...
2887 KB/s (543080 bytes in 0.183s)
2942 KB/s (1867568 bytes in 0.619s)
2913 KB/s (476557 bytes in 0.159s)
3038 KB/s (63838 bytes in 0.020s)
[*] Cleaning up...
/system/bin/sh: su: not found
[*] Rebooting...
[*] Exploit complete!
[*] Press any key to exit.

My question is: has the Smart Action exploit been closed with the official OTA push v 98.72.16.XT912.Verizon.en.US ?

This made the difference from my linux machine as well. If you see three errors in Phase three referring to /data/logger, try this before doing the FDR.

Thanks to all on the forums for the help.

Thanks, this also worked for me using kubuntu! It had seemed to start trying to run the script before the phone had rebooted completely.
