So my Humanities Lecture Hall at the school I attend (UCSC) has no Wi-Fi connection...and its a programming class where we all have laptops. On 6.11.748 I sometimes (when I held the phone up) got 1 bar of 3G connection , occasionally 0 bar LTE. And when tethered gave them this on average on my laptop:

Pretty awful right?

I haven't used anything other than my Gnex for tethering since, and I recently put my Razr on 6.12.174 (Used 6.12.173 LTE radio, but a further upgraded CDMA Radio in 6.12.174). Now I get this:

Huge difference. 2-3 bars of LTE in the same place where on 6.11.748 had 1 bar of LTE...sometimes. To confirm with peeps, I upgraded to 6.12.174 while inside of the classroom today and in the class before I started I got LTE with 0 bars in my seat.

May be a fluke, buts is a great fluke for me!

Anyone else have field tests of 6.12.173 or 6.12.174 they wish to share?

Same issue where I work. pre-173 I'd get no LTE and weak 3G. Now I can fairly consistently hold LTE where I literally had none. I've got vast experience with this location since I'm here every day... I've even downgraded back to check to see if it was maybe a new tower that got lit conveniently at the same time. No dice. Definitely the radio.

Me to as im still using safestrap and it would be a lil work around to get to 174 without rsd'ing. However if there is noticable increase i will. ' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Had to share this, awesome results from the. 174 update. I've been getting improved speeds and connectivity all day and this is decidedly the best result, achieved with 5 bars of service.

I would have liked to report some good news but if there is no signal present this radio still doesn't receive it (duh that's obvious). I was hoping I would get some good results but guess I'm too close to the mountain when the cell towers are in the valley. My 3g runs faster then 4g, if it runs at all, which is sad. When I'm about a mile away that's a different story 4g blazes. Plus side is I did notice that I get 4g more often then before but it's still not operable.

Guess I will have to the test at work this week since home testing is a bust. Thankfully I have good wifi speeds.

I'm a bit confused. which radios work better? Are we saying 173 do the trick or that you need to update to 174 to get even better. Personally I'm no fan of using files that are not official been down that road on the Bionic and it causes nothing but issue moving forward on updates. Specially once you get one that will not allow you to downgrade to get back on track, luckily that has not happened yet and lets hope it doens't for any of you folks willing to mess with these leaked or cheescake pulled files. And at some point that is bound to happen on Razr/Maxx

Just curious tho on which set of radios is better

Went from .173 to .174 and went from about .80 m/bit download on 3g to 2.0 m/bits download speed. Signal is more solid also it seems. Now we need a lte radio update
