Why oh why does moto change the things they do while in the process they only cause delays in updates?

My question of the day is:
You have limited cash to spend on a device and really don't want to be locked in for 2 more years with the only service worth a crap in your area.
You don't actually NEED one but the ones you have are locked down and even though they work fine, you can't tweak them visually to your liking.
Should you..
Go ahead and grab something that has been exploited now, in fear that this might be close to the end of root/unlocking
Or
Wait until closer to the end of the year in hopes that the next batch isn't restricted like what you already have
Or
Just remember..it's just a damned phone.

I've got 2 Bionics and a RAZR..I am so tired of Blurs restrictions and haven't had much luck with kezec on the Bionic..I'm pretty sure most of that development has been sidelined in favor of the unlocked Motos..sucks for me

I know how you feel. I got a Bionic, RAZR Maxx and a Gnex. About to see all 3 of them. Maybe even the S3 if it means I can get an S4 :)

Why not? No one thought the S3 would be unlockable on Verizon when it came out either.

Exploit but it was still unlockable. Doesnt really matter if it's by the manufacturer or not. Exploits will always be found and there will always be people to find them.

Either Sammy doesn't give a rats if they get unlocked or not..or they are taking advantage of the gap that's coming from motos butt kissing of VZW. Even though Dan came trough big time not only with the Motos..but with the Sammy, the exploits (mainly Root) are getting ridiculous and I fear the days of being able to do half of what we can do now are very limited. I haven't run a Sammy with Android but I have heard that they still don't have that great of a radio..and Moto has pretty good hardware but they are killing the OS with all their changes..which is why I'm trying to figure out what to do. The HD is unlocked and has a lot of development kicking in.. it's not as powerful as the S4.. but yeah.. this is a crappy situation for those who don't like to be sand boxed.

I agree with some of what you said. I definitely don't think the days of what we can do now are nearing an end though. Samsungs rep with radios used to be bad, that all changed via the S3. I had issues with mine not getting 4G to start but I found out it was an issue with my SIM card, not the phone. Now I have extremely strong 4G at home at even a better dbm than with my OG RAZR Maxx. I am at about -76dBm on 4G right now where with the RAZR Maxx I was at about -89dBm in the same place. Honestly in my opinion Samsung is killing it right now and the development on the S3 goes way beyond what the RAZR HD will ever reach.

 

That gives me high hopes about the S4. I see development for the S4 skyrocketing past the HD very quickly.

I'm just speaking from the limited experience I have.. only been running moto and got my first Droid ( Bionic) a month after launch. My VZW contract ends in September and seeing as I don't have unlimited nor do I live in an area that has any real coverage close to VZW..and don't have 600 sitting around to pay outright..I'm stuck with them,so whatever device I choose I'm going to have to live with it for a while and if I/O doesn't have any decent moto stuff..it's probably going to come down to either an HD or S4
