Hello,

I've never messed with the firmware on motorola phones before.  I have been trying to fix a Droid Maxx 2 (XT1565) that's boot looping, but I couldn't get RSD Lite to recognize it after hours of different cables and drivers.  Figured I'd try House of moto. It isn't only for Razr phones right?

I would make sure that your drivers are working first and that your phone shows up in the device manager if you are using windows. Then read up on using fastboot and adb. If i remember correctly the xt1565 came out about the time Motorola changed the adb and fastboot utilities and may not be compatible with HOM, It may be a good idea to ask about compatibility in the HOM thread.

What's the etiquette for a new member introduction, should it be a reply in this thread topic or the creation of a new thread?

Here is fine. I see you have been a member for almost a year. Welcome to our little community. There are a lot of older information here as well as newer but so much has changed in the last couple of years that there isn't nearly as much development going on. Most of the newer things is talked about in the off topic area in this thread

10-4, thank you spainter!

Yeah, I've been poking around for a while even before that. LOL I agree about the change, it reminds me of the phrase typically associated with the older folks, "Things aren't the way they used to be!" I imagine it'll probably be used earlier and earlier in life by future generations... it's like some mutated form of Moore's Law. hahaha

Well, first of all my username *should* have been exsquid and it was supposed to reflect my previous enlistment in the Navy. but I wasn't paying attention when I typed it. :)

I'll try to be succinct here because I've been told many times (and I agree) that I tend to overthink, spend too much time on things, and be overly detailed. So I'll do my best to keep myself in the scope of this forum and welcome any (polite) feedback/reminders from others in that spirit as well.

I'd consider myself much more proficient with electronics hardware related repairs than software and I'm by no means an engineer or highly specialized/certified in anything, I'm just someone who enjoys disassembling, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic devices. I'm very comfortable with flashing/updating devices and so forth, but only after I RTFM and understand what I'm doing. I enjoy the satisfaction of thoroughly learning and discovering the solution without help and will typically try to avoid asking until absolutely necessary.

My first smartphone was the XT926 (RAZR MAXX HD) which was replaced with my current XT1585 (TURBO 2 customized *only* w/boot a screen "personal greeting" & 64GB), both purchased at Big Red's store. After the second "purchase" (I really got for free.. another story) of the XT1585, I became increasingly frustrated that I was forced to have bloatware and little freedom of control on both phones in addition to the merry-go-round of support/blame from Moto & VZW, thus began my quest to resolve this blight. I did my best to avoid OTA updates on both phones, but I eventually relented. :( I've learned my lesson at this point and I will never buy another new or branded phone!

Presently, I now have.. several XT926/5s from ebay to experiment/play around with and are essentially the immediate focus of my interest. I know these are old phones, but I have to start somewhere despite not knowing how far or where where I'm going yet. ;)

BTW, would you like me to make the change to your username to correct it?  I can do that if you wish.

If it's not too much trouble, that would would be totally rad! Thank you!

OK, perhaps that sounded overly enthusiastic... LOL

BTW, this site has benefited me in the past and I tried to return the favor with the "Donate/Supporting Members" button. Unfortunately, I got, "Sorry but the Donation Tracker is currently offline. Please check back later."

Yeah, on that note.. I have some related questions. While all of my inquiries for the foreseeable future will be with the XT926/XT925 in mind, some will be general in nature. I'll do my best to post in an appropriate Subforum only AFTER exhaustive searching of course! I'm a little hazy on the preferred posting method though. Should I ask in an existing thread with the same topic (isn't that thread hijacking) or create a new thread?

You will find quite a few thread under the xt926 in the legacy area. Posting in an established thread would be preferable but if there isn't one that addresses your question or issue feel free to create one.

I'd be tempted to go ahead and start a new thread at this point.  It will help avoid mixing in old ideas and resolutions.

Really, it's so quiet around here that it doesn't make much difference.

Any thoughts on the Donation not working?

Ha, well, that'd be the most excitement around here in quite some time.... regardless, things can always be moved around.  No worries.

As for the donations, if you feel so inclined, go ahead and send some to a charity of choice instead :)
