Running the OTA JB Leak from Christmas.
98.72.8.XT912

Trying to go back to the original homescreen.apk in order to update to the latest JB software.

Installed the RAZR M homescreen.apk files using these instructions:

Follow this to install on new JB leak:

RAZR M Laucher:

- Copy launcher to system/app
- Set permission to RW-R-R
- Tap on the the file just copied and do a double installation to overwrite system app
- Make a copy of homescreen.apk
- Change the .apk extension to .zip
- Extract using winrar or winzip
- Locate the files 'libnative_renderer.so' & 'libtexture_mem.so' inside the folder 'armeabi' under lib folder
- Copy both files to system\lib folder and overwrite any existing files and set permissions rw r r
- REBOOT
- Install 3d circles and weather in any order

Circle Widget 3D:
- Install as normal app

Weather:
- Install as normal app

Follow these directions and everything will work just fine!

Now I am trying to go back to the original homescreen.apk file and I'm getting an "Install Failed" error every time I try to install it.

I have even deleted the M homescreen.apk file and replaced it with the original file and then rebooted only to discover the phone stuck at the red eye and will not boot up. Then I have to wipe the data and start with a fresh phone which fails towards the end of the initial setup process. I am only able to do anything on the phone because the Play Store shows me updates are available for programs I have downloaded before.
Once I'm in the Play Store I can download ES File Explorer and then delete the original homescreen.apk file and replace it with the M homescreen.apk file and everything works perfectly.

Not sure how to go back to the stock launcher ???

I can however install the original Homeconfig.apk file without any problems.

Any ideas would be great. Would like to update the phone to the latest release.

Thanks,

Bimmerod

One way is to use Matts JB utility and start from scratch

Take the orig homescreen.apk and drop it into system/app using es file explorer then press and hold the apk and choose permissions and change them to owner - read, write / group - read / other - read. Then reboot. Hope this helps :-)

To avoid this problem... the one where boot fails... take another home app such as Apex and install. This way should boot on the original home apk fail... it will still boot using Apex.

I have tried that already. Will not boot up stuck at red eye logo screen.

Not sure why i can't go back to the original after installing the RAZR M homescreen.apk ???

Maybe I need to take cmh714 advice and format everything !!!!
