Mods, I'm thinking it might be useful to pin this thread, at least until there is a root method that works on ICS for our CDMA Razrs? Seems like it's worked for most people!

No they're not. I just downloaded ICS DSP manager. Thanks btw lol.

Thet are fine now... thats weird. The morning i tried them, they were all reporting 404 errors. Must have been the site. This method works 100% if you fallow the OP to the t.

+1, this should definitely be a sticky. It is 100% a fail proof way (unless you mistype or forget spaces) to regain root after the leak.

For those of you who WERE rooted & protected root with Voodoo, installed the ICS leak & subsequently lost root like I did,

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

tweeted out some helpful instructions to remedy the issue!

Disclaimers:
I did not personally use this method - before it was available, I had already RSD'd. On my second time through the process, I successfully retained root. Therefore this was unneeded (for ME!) All credit goes to

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

, I just wrote up the instructions! Thanks man, you're a lifesaver :D

Finally, I'm not responsible for any damage you do to your phone!! Read instructions carefully!

I tried restoring root using this method but I keep getting "not found" and I did everything before loading leaked ICS including voodoo rootkeep and backing it up...followed everything to the letter on terminal emulator but nothing's working. Anyone got any ideas what I maybe doing wrong?

The only way you could get the "not found" error is if root wasn't properly backed up.

I have upgraded to the ICS Leak 5 times in the last 48hours...Trying to get the set up just right and learned a few things like needing and making a homemade factory cable and flashing on a low battery. I used this method in the OP 3 of the 5 times since I was starting at .173 via Matt's 1.51, root, backup root, and upgrade. 3 or the 5 times root was not restored and I followed the steps here...I was working on a script to automate it...and before the 4th time, I remembered that I did not lose root when I flashed all the way back to .744 and BINGO! See, I had to restore root going from .744 to .173. So, I just backed up and restored root the before the 4th and 5th time I upgraded from GB to ICS, root was restored and I can now forget the steps I memorized.

Now I just:

1. Start with .173 via Matt's 1.51
2. Root
3. Voodoo
4. Backup root
5. Temporarily Unroot
6. Restore root
7. Upgrade to ICS
8. Restore root

So, if you restore root before you upgrade to ICS, YOU WILL NOT LOSE ROOT!

+1 on the pin

Please test and like this if it works...

Also, my torrent client appended loaded to the torrents and that gave a 404...I turned off load from directory and edited the torrents...so I broke and fixed the problem...sorry for the mystery :D

Went back to 173 with Matt's program
Did the OTA to 181
Rooted with Matt's program
Installed Vodoo and protected root
Loaded the ICS Leak
Used terminal commands to restore root.

Rockin and rolling now.... Thanks for the Leak.

Right ON! It worked for me, Thank You so much! :D

I did it again today on a friends RAZR. Just small tweak instead of using the terminal emulator on the phone I used Matt's Tool (thanx dude) utilizing option # 13 ADB Shell. That made it very easy to just cut and paste those commands. Below is the output from my session. Thanx again....

Don't use this unless you know what you are doing.
Make sure your phone has Debugging mode enabled.
Type in "exit" without the "" to exit from shell.

Press any key to continue . . .
shell@cdma_spyder:/ $ /system/su-backup
/system/su-backup
root@cdma_spyder:/ # mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/system /system
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/system /system
root@cdma_spyder:/ # cp /system/su-backup /system/bin/su
cp /system/su-backup /system/bin/su
root@cdma_spyder:/ # exit
shell@cdma_spyder:/ $ exit

Not sure what's going on, I sent Matt a new ICS root utility I found on the XDA thread. Once you have ICS installed you can root your ICS installation without having prior root access in .181. Just figured I would chime in since people still seem to be worrying about maintaining it via RootKeeper.
