"Other than that, nothing else is new out of this report. This past weekend’s rumor stated that the device(HD) may not launch until October, something also mentioned in this new report. The RAZR and RAZR MAXX will hit “EOL” (end of life) status in October, so this sort of makes sense. I still think it is going to be difficult for Motorola to sell many of these should it launch post-iPhone 5."
I realize this is by NO means official, but it did mention a potential EOL for us, which was brought up in the thread as having a bearing on possibility of JB update.
Just passing it on.

From DroidLife, today 8-15-12, in the post about the Razr HD, said(regarding EOL for Razr):

i don't think thats what will happen at all. the razr is not going to hit a eol within a year. if it does ill be calling verizon and complaining and requesting a relevant, current phone.

In which I concur about that statement. If the warranty is technically a year from the purchase date, then that phone should not have an EOL before it's 1 year point (which, mind you, its coming up soon, November I believe?) (Jan 2013 for Maxx)

The October date is the latter. We probably will see some form of updates for at least a year or two.

Some people use EOL to refer to the manufacturer not offering updates anymore, and some use it for Verizon removing it from stock.

I agree in some extent. I've had other phones that were eol, but the manufacturer ended up pushing another update. Time will tell and this is my first experience with moto so no past experience.

It's took Moto just under 10 years to get us from Gingerbread to ICS. Of course the week we get ICS ( officially, of course), Google dumps AOSP Jelly Bean source. Now, granted the changes between GB and ICS are vast compared to the changed from ICS to JB, even if they have my boy Hudson working into the wee hours of the morning again, I don't expect to see JB on my Razr this year, if ever. I am almost 100% sure I'll be onto a new device with native JB by then. (and it might not even be a Moto if they keep up the crap)

I seriously hope that you intended that to be an exaggeration...Android was first released in 2008. Don't go using an extreme hyperbole to gain support. You can seriously upset a delicate balance among our members by using disinformation. Not to mention that wrong facts tend to lead to awkward situations. Try to be as truthful and as close to the facts as possible. We don't want someone running off and spreading rumors.

Do you honestly think anyone with half a brain wouldn't know that I was kidding?

so you over charge people because you don't like what they have to say? glad I don't do business with you
Nope, not at all. That is normal rates. Thank goodness I am not IBM when it is a minimum $300 when they start. Very standard in the industry and once again, someone making a comment on something they don't know anything about. Rest my case.

I can't remember what/who I was dealing with at work, but I've seen these kind of rates, and a minimum "time" quite a few times. Standard indeed.

just worked on a customers og zoom today and that recieved jellybean. the tablet is well over a year old. point being im condident the razr will get jellybean love as well from moto.
The main difference is that the Xoom was a Nexus device, and the main bonus of buying a Nexus device is receiving updates right after they get pushed by Google. Not really comparable to any non-Nexus devices.
I think the Razr will get JB, but to be honest I wouldn't expect it this year. The Razr was the best selling android phone for a long time (the G-Nex was returned in record numbers), is still Moto's flagship, and selling well. It's the same situation we had with the ICS update - the devs will deliver far before Verizon does and with a much better product (and we do need to keep in mind that any delays aren't Moto's fault, but Verizon constantly returning builds). But now that we have kexec we really will have no reason to care when the official version comes out.
But to be honest I'm not really sure why people cared before kexec. As soon as ICS came out everyone was looking for a ROM for flash over it anyways.

Come on guys, please be civil. Remember that people are using a keyboard, not their mouth; it is impossible to guage attitude/sarcasm/meaning over the internet. And besides that we are all here for the same reason and with the sames goals, the least we can do is get along.

I think everyone who posted from the op to dccoh needs to apologize for your rudeness and for bashing him. There was absolutely no need for this and you drove away a community me member. This is a community. Not a court room to yell at people. This is insanity and this thread should be locked/deleted. I hope you guys are proud for making him feel bad for asking a simple question.
I'm not apologizing for crap. Just because I didn't understand the op's vagueness doesn't mean I owe him an apology. I also wasn't as blatant as some of the other people's posts.
On topic, JB is definitely not coming official for the razr by Sept no matter what droid life/android police told us. Off topic, I think at the pace Moto has gone in the past we have a 50-50 chance of getting JB official on the Razr. Moto is at +7ish months from official Google release thus-far with ICS on our device (Bionic and many other newer Motos are sill on Gingerbread) so our odds of getting JB before EOL at the current pace is 50% really, At Best!
