Has any one heard when the ics update will be released for the droid razr? Cause im not sure if i want to root untill the ics update comes out.
Only thing we have heard is Q1 2012, but we heard Q4 2011 for unlocked bootloader tools and look what we got....

now that im rooted i cant "unroot" (default verizon rom or whatever" to install ics? ;_;
You don't need to unroot your phone to apply updates. However, the update will unroot your phone. Your phone just needs all of it's original files intact to apply OTA updates.
so will there be a ics update for root soon after the real update?
OTA Rootkeeper "should" hold your root through the update.

yes, but with project cheesecake i'm guessing the ics ota will leak at least a couple Weeks before ota is pushed and could be flashed no problemSo if your on a different ROM than stock would you have to restore the stock ROM before installing the update?

+1I'd prefer that inexperienced users not mess with cheesecake/pre-alpha versions of ICS/etc. Most of the razr ROMs are very early in development and have many issues. Stick with the more final/complete ROMs for now. We'll let you know what cheesecake yields. We don't want to attract too much attention on the moto servers.
I make guides for everything there is a reason I haven't made a public cheesecake guide. Its dangerous in more than a couple ways. Please don't bother looking for it anyone, its already being taken care of.

I'd take Mattlgroff's advice to heart and just stay away from Cheesecake while the more experinced guys work out all the kinks. He's guided me on a few occasions and hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I mean the Cheesecake application. The 6.12.173 is a useful radio upgrade, I just find it annoying to go back to 6.11.748 rooted from 6.12.173. just clarifyingNope. Running on .748.
