so based on what I read from the link that Cell Zealot put up. There is a process to regain root on this update.
You need to flash the FXZ files for 9.16.6 (MR2 files) EXCEPT, the xml needs to be edited so ad to remove the flashing of the tz partition.

Then boot back up into the previous version and run this motochopper exploit. Continue on using voodoo ota rootkeeper, protect your root and flash the new ota. Boot up into 9.18.79 and restore root. They claim this works.

There is, you don't have to find the write up. I wrote it. Lol.

This is for people who are locked, updated and unrooted.

This is not a problem for any device with an unlocked bootloader, the question is whether this method works on a locked stock device so that those who are stuck have a way to regain root without a new exploit being developed.

Indeed. I tried to explain what that member on xda did as best as possible.

Hopefully someone else can try it and we can have further confirmation. I suppose at least having root access back is next best if ones locked.

This could be easily and safely tested by anyone who is on the new update without root since we have the full XML.zip, you can easily restore the device to the exact same state you started from without worry about soft bricking or anything else.

The really important thing to understand is to learn how to think creatively about issues like this, as realbbb has done here, so that you can better deal with the ever evolving problem of keeping root through firmware updates.
It is a given that they will attempt to block any current exploit with each update and this an old game of cat and mouse we have been playing for years now and it gets tougher with each round.

Just saying, rather than continue to languish in one click lala land with packaged solutions handed down to us from the likes of the OP of this thread, we need to step up our game.

Not workin for me. It just tells me to press any key and then get stuck after 2 lines. It says:

Waiting for device...

Daemon not running. Starting it now on port 5037

Daemon started successfully

then just stops. Im using windows 8 pc, trying to root a XT907 on 4.1.2

[EDIT] When I run the batch with the phone not plugged in, it does the same thing.
