realbbb just removed the getvar lines and tz.mbn lines and the erase userdata lines and flashed everything else including all of the low level partitions.

I recommend trying it exactly as he stated before making any modifications.

Easy enough.  That's basically what my Keep Data script does already except for the tz partition.

Here's a new version of the downgrade script that has everything but tz.

Is there an easy way to tell if the bootloader on my RAZR M is unlocked? I am currently rooted on 98.15.66.XT907 Android version 4.1.2, just stock with no ROM. I used TiBu to freeze the updater.apk so VZW would stop trying to force the latest OTA on me.

Boot into AP Fastboot mode and it'll tell you there.  Secure mode 3 is unlocked.

Thank you for the tip. I pulled up that menu......

AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)

10.9B(*) (sha-1e9f557, 2013-03-22 09:18:22)

eMMC Info: Size 8GB

Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0

So I was able to gain root under the old motochopper way, but my bootloader is locked. I'll try the motopocalypse to unlock the bootloader and see what happens.

Excellent. Make sure to grab my updated version of the script.  I modified it at CZ's recommendation.

We still need independent verification from a stock locked device user employing the minimally edited XML with RSD Lite to successfully revert, reroot and flash forwards again.

Then we have a complete and safely and predictably usable solution.

This, completely.  The process should be this:

o) Flash the MR2 FXZ with my modified RSD Downgrade script (WILL keep data)

o) Use Motochopper to root

o) Ensure su binary is up to date (this is important)

o) Use Voodoo OTA Root Keeper to protect root

o) Take the OTA upgrade

o) Restore root with Voodoo

This should be done on a locked phone.  Please post results.

No.  If you've taken the update, it's flashed the TZ partition.  The TZ is the Trusted Zone and once that's flashed, the exploit is patched.  That partition can't be reverted even on unlocked phones so there's no hope of an unlock.  But I mean root's nothing to sneeze at so hopefully this works.

[*]Exploit complete. Press enter to reboot and exit.

I'm relatively new to this scene. Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

The moon isn't aligned properly with the stars.  Oh, you wanted an actual answer?!  Then you need to provide a lot more information than that.  Like what version of Android you're on, etc.

If it's failing then you probably took the new update on which you cannot root. I suggest reading the last couple weeks of this thread and you can find an answer Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2

If the bootloader is unlocked, install TWRP or CWM and flash the supersu zip in recovery.
