Sorry to ask a n00b question, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. I was attempting to try CM10 for the first time (coming from Rage HD 1.2 on the 4.1.2 kernel). I rebooted into TWRP, performed a backup, mounted system, wiped cache, dalvik cache, and system, queued the lastest version of the n38 kernel, 7/3 nightly of skrilax's build of CM 10, google apps zip, and flashed. Everything appeared to flash correctly in TWRP, but now I'm stuck looping on the CM boot screen. What did I do wrong?
don't mount system.
and you want the kernel after the rom or the rom will overwrite the custom kernel.
Since you are changing system levels, I would flash the rom and gapps, boot, let settle, then flash the kernel.
If you are feeling lucky, flash the rom and gapps, reboot into recovery, then flash the kernel.
Good luck.
