After running Step 5 (Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US) I get Installing update... assert failed: (bunch of build.prop errors and what not). This is supposed to be via Recovery as in Holding Power and 2 Volume, then selecting Recovery right?

md5 on zip ending in c0f4c4?

I did 3 times...Should we exit your 1.6 util then launch 206 or leave it open? Once I saw a failed messages initially I exited, or should I let the program run all of the way through? Sorry I was not clear.

Sounds like you didnt fastboot to 181 first as build.prop should be the last thing to fail

Yeah, I think I should let the util run all of the way through. I got it in my head it was ok to exit it once I saw a failure, but I think I am wrong on that.

Running it all of the way through now... Will report back. Sorry for my misunderstanding

***Night and day*** Had to let util run all of the way through. Sorry bout that!***

You have to flash the 85 boot.img thru fastboot than boot up using bp tools. Than root and finally flash the 206 kernel

ugh... tried to restore a safestrap backup and accidentally selected to restore the system and then cancelled it about 5 minutes into the restore. (Unsafe mode) Strange thing is that it went back to .75 and booted up after I had to complete a few factory wipes. (I'm sure as hell lucky that it even boot.) I had to flash back to .181 (Which had errors obviously and then soft bricked my phone.) Then fastboot to .206 and followed the process from OP. Also restoring the data from my safestrap image saves me the time from reconfiguring every little friggen thing. Life is good again! .206 seems so much more stable than .75. Only issues I need to find out is if the 3rd party tts engine doesn't flake out after disconnecting a USB HDD connection from PC to phone while using google NAV and use the built in google NAV voice.

Many thanks to Matt, dhacker, and everyone involved in getting this tool to those of us who were stuck on .84. I just used this method to get to .206 without a hitch (got lucky and the update applied in one try).

Okay I want to attempt this and while I think I understand the OP I figured I would ask to be sure. You say the rooting methed uses the .85 image so in my understanding would that be compatible if im on .84 and want to regain my root after flashing to 206? I want like crazy to check out of this damned hotel but if the next one doesnt have root I see no gain? Also if anyone has the time and patience and wants to elaborate on the steps in the OP that would be very much appreciated

if you're still on the 85 boot img, you can put your phone in media mode rather than mass storage and flash the icsroot utility. Worked for me, then i flashed the 206 boot img and maintained root.

check device manager. Maybe your drivers aren't fully installed. You can try and unplugging the usb then plugging it back in too

JJ, did step 1/3 go through ok for root but 2/3 failed? Make sure you are running option 3 (ics root). Just ran into that, and got it fixed by updating the drivers (MotoHelper_2.1.40_Driver_5.5.0) via 1.6 util folder and also (though it might of been unnecessary, booted into bp tools each step) and got it to work

I think I'm doing something wrong when flashing the 85 boot.img What is the correct way to do this? Also, what should I be seeing when going into BP Tools?
