I think I'm doing something wrong when flashing the 85 boot.img What is the correct way to do this? Also, what should I be seeing when going into BP Tools?

Once that (step 8) goes through, it should remain in the fastboot mode if I am not mistaken. After that, you'll boot your phone up by going into bp tools and you won't see anything that I could see. Did you try running ics root yet? Make sure you have usb debug on under developer menu.

Use it in another phone, use a microSD adapter?

After step 8 it is still in fastboot. How do I get from there to bp tools?

When I do that it just reboots normally and it shows that I am still on 206.

Ok, I got got to bp tools but when I select it it reboots normally. Run the root tool, 1/3 completes, after reboot I hit any to continue and get error: device not found

After you boot into 206 initially, power off, then boot into AP mode, and flash the .85 boot img with matts little utility. After that flashes, you should still be in AP mode. Just simply hit the power to shutoff. from there hit the three bottons again and boot with BP Tools. It will appear to boot into 206 normally. from there you can run the ICS root from matts utility. some people say boot into BP tools each time the tool requires a reboot. I didn't and my root worked. After the tool is done and the phone reboots 3 times, you should be rooted. then power off, go back into AP again, and flash the 206 boot img with the little utility. from there you should be set.

By doing boot.img, I don't believe you'll see anything other than 206. 206 is good. Make sure USB debug is enabled and try running ICS root (option 3 of 1.6 util)

My PC has to be turding because this seems to be taking forever. Not just stuffing it in and moving along. Really slow process here.

JJ

JJ, did step 1/3 go through ok for root but 2/3 failed? Make sure you are running option 3 (ics root). Just ran into that, and got it fixed by updating the drivers (MotoHelper_2.1.40_Driver_5.5.0) via 1.6 util folder and also (though it might of been unnecessary, booted into bp tools each step) and got it to work

Confirmed... updating the drivers to 5.5.0 fixed my issue as well. I was getting stuck at step 2. Went from 84 to 206 and was able to root, thanks to everyone involved!

I can confirm this works coming from .203. However I still had the same data problem that I had on .203. I had to flash the radio.img from .79. I keep trying to think of something that I'm doing wrong, but I can't think of anything.

Once I flashed the radio.img from .79 and rebooted I had 4G almost immediately.

Make sure to follow the instructions in the OP.

The MD5 on the 1.6 Utility is 99df6ca0b1ea9ad28e88dd7d5fe45b8b for all those wondering.

For step 10 - ICS root, upon each reboot request, make sure you place the phone back into BP Tools mode, then once the phone has reboot, press enter at the command prompt to continue. This works like a charm!! I wa scared as hell once I found out I lost root with the 206 updated!!! Congrats to a job well done on figuring this out!!

Im sorry to be ignorant but what is place phone back into "bp" mode? thank you!
