I have, for a time, been trying to set right my Razr Max's GPS situation.  I've researched it extensively, but it still is faulty.  The Maxx is really an overhauled Razr done perfectly.  I've done the magnet reset scenario limited success.  I'm guessing the phone may have come close to a strong magnet, but can't say for sure.  The phone can see a large number of satellites while waved to re-orient the compass, but slowly loses most, some, or all, of them when idle.  I've tried a number of highly rated apps, liking GPS Status and Satellite Check above all.  I have a plain Droid Razr (long story) that I just brought out of light retirement and it stays locked easily.  They both have very similar sensor readings, so I can't understand what's going on.  Perhaps the sensor in the Maxx is thrown off due to the battery?  While in the factory car dock, the Maxx works well enough; good navigation, speed interpretation is fine, to.  Ugh...

Update; recently, BOTH my Razrs seemed to have lost their GPS abilities. My spare, 'regular' Razr had been dormant, unused, and I restored it back up to a basic running status for reference. GPS on it was flawless...until just before the other day. Now, last night, for the helluvit, I checked my Maxx. Instantly snapped on GPS, numerous satellites. Aside from a slight waving to set the compass, satellites are being found without hesitation, and are locking on. NO fading. Holding me breath on this one.

No argument, sounds good. Sotra resigned that I have a bum satellite receiver in my Razr-turned-RazrMaxx. Info may be helpful to others with a similar problem. I could lock on but could never 'hold' the signal, and was very susceptible to e.m. interference. Kinda worked ok in the car dock, but never great.
