Just be aware that unlocking does erase your data partition afaik.  So you will need to set everything up again after the unlock.  The good news is this only has to be done once.  And when you install custom recovery you can start doing full nandroid backups.

In otherwords, I should have unlocked out of the box. I am still a little confused, I would use RSD lite to flash the recovery and SU?

You have to get the unlock code from moto, once unlocked you flash a recovery through fastboot. Then flash su in recovery. To unlock go here.  https://motorola-glo...k-your-device-a

Download goo.im if there is not a recovery for it send me the dev/block/by-name output and I can through one together for you. I'm pretty sure there should be one.

Can't hurt to try if it doesn't work you should just be able to flash stock recovery or possibly run rsd

Nothing is easy it seems. I am having difficulties finding and downloading mfastboot flash recovery twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img . And everything i read says it is for Android 4.4 and I am running 4.2.2. I am about toast here.  DirtyDroidX I don't know what you mean when you say "send me the dev/block/by-name output". I guess I am just not smart enough to do this.

Maybe I should wait for OTA update to 4.4. It took me hours to find this one...Wait, I found a post that says it works on the Maxx running 4.2.2. I flash using fastboot correct?

I hate to ask but I have 2 more questions. I could not get the old workaround to work using sqlite and ashell for the wifi hotspot. I could not open the database, I got an error that said "no app to open database" (or something like that).I assume this is because of the update I took. I have it working with FoxFi and it seems to be working fine. Is that the only way to have wifi w/o paying Verizon at this point? Second question, is there a reason I should have busybox installed with this unlocked phone? Thaks again for all your help today!

There are Verizon entitlement.apk hacks for the x that would probably work, they might need to be modded for the droids.
