Hey Gang ... long time no see!! I'm running a rooted Razr Maxx XT912 ..,(98.72.8.XT912) on Jelly Bean 4.1.2

The ole Maxx has been really sluggish lately, and I have cleared the cache a few times. It has been more than a year since I have done anything with the phone, it has worked flawlessly and I have had no issues with it. It's rooted, mainly for the Mobile Hotspot and a few other features only available to us rooted users. I have Voodoo Rootkeeper installed, SQLite Editor, Titanium Backup, and all the best root apps. No custom ROM's, nothing other than root.

What I want to do is very simple ... I want to do a factory data reset, but naturally I want to keep root. There are quite a few apps which I never use, so I am going to streamline the apps installed, and keep the bloatware frozen, and keep her running smooth and quick.

Yes, I do know how to do a factory data reset, but what I need is the basics on the best way to do it, and keeping root along the way. Thanks in advance!!

Doing a regular FDR (factory data reset) will not cause you to lose root anyway.... if you want a complete wipe and return to stock then Matt's utility or House of Moto is the way to go......

I'm with John - if you are going to FDR, why not give it a full fxz?  A truly clean slate can do wonders.

I originally used Matt's utility way back when I first rooted this Maxx, I think it was version 1.8? I think ... in fact I think I still have it squirreled away on my storage drive. So you think that would be the way to go? Full wipe and start from scratch? Is there a "latest and greatest version" of the utility for Jelly Bean 4.1.2?

And thank you!!

Ahhhh, cool beenz. I'll look into the House of Moto but I love Matt's utilities ... dude does some awesome work.

I do have a question however, at first glance I notice this version installs Safestrap ... I currently have Bootstrap installed. As I said I don't do ROM's or anything, just rooted stock. Is this going to give me problems? Do I need to uninstall bootstrap or will the full wipe take care of that?

The help is much appreciated!

Once you do a fxz.... the old bootstrap will be gone... no problems....but if you don't ROM .... the safestrap could be useless and needlessly take up precious space (other than simply doing backups )

I wouldn't need Safestrap at all? I could just use Matt's utility and wipe it all the way back to stock, and then root it? I only root for the Mobile Hotspot app, and a few other root features. Never have done anything with ROM's.

Awesome sauce!! I'll download it this afternoon when I get off work. My work has everything so filtered I had to tether my tablet with Mobile Hotspot just to check this thread. Thanks very much for all your help, I definitely trust Matt's work, me and his utilities go way back to ICS and Gingerbread days. LOL

Just curious ... I'm not familiar with this version of root used in this utility ... I trust that Voodoo Root keeper and SuperSU and all the other root apps will play nice with it? Especially SQLite Editor for the Mobile Hotspot app? LOL

So since there haven't been any more updates after 4.1.2 I can save this utility, and can wipe and root anytime I want until the phone falls apart? The reason I ask is the phone is going to have to fall apart before I give up my unlimited data and buy another one from Big Red. I'm in the process of backing everything up before I jump into it.

Oh crap, one last question LOL

Do I need to unfreeze all the bloatware apps that I have frozen in Titanium Backup? Or does it matter?

When I go to install the drivers from the drivers folder, it asks me if I want to repair or remove Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation ... so I take it that means I already have the latest drivers?

I'm waiting for my phone to charge to 100% before I start it ...

I used the one in the folder with the utility ... but your link seems to be a newer version than the one in the drivers folder ...
