What did the problem end up being so that others that are interested in taking the dive may learn from this.

I was trying to add these icons into 24v's "A_theme" and obviously SOMETHING in there wasn't getting along. Trying to theme a theme may be beyond my technical abilities at this point. But once I added the data icons into the gradient battery mod that you had listed in your original rom OP, I was successfull. So I honestly don't know what the deal was. But, it worked. I just made and signed a flashable zip so I can share this with anyone who may want the fancy battery wit the bigger 3g/4g LTE icons. I find those icons SO much easier to read, especially when it's in my car dock or in bright light. I appreciate everyone's help. After I test and confirm the flashable zip works, EmericanX, I will give you a link if you want to add it to your mod options on the ROMs OP, that would be cool with me. It's the least I could do for everyone's help! Thanks again

Good job! Persistence is the key ;-)

I tried working with R3Ds battery mod, but i could never get the thing to compile. Even if no changes were made.

I know it's not just me because I've seen it before, the regular AOSP data icons are hard as hell to read. The 3g and 4g are so small. I really like having the big bold font and the ever obvious LTE in there. Hope you like it! Thanks again for your help

Worst part is making 100's of pngs to build my mod. Time consuming!

Question:

What is the /system/framework/services.jar that you include with these zips?

Its part of the accurate battery mod. That's where the actual battery service code is modified.

oh..hmm. I thought you just have to change the XML no? What does this do beyond the added lines in the xml?

The xml is one part yes. But in order to actually read in 1% increments.... the battery serice class has to be edited to do so. You can have systemui setup with the correct xml's and images but if services.jar is left untouched you will still only get stock increments on the battery.

Ok, here comes one last noob-dev question. What program would one use to edit something like services.jar? When I look at it, there's only a meta-inf folder and (if deodexed) a classes.dex file, which I'm also not sure how to open? Any tips? Thanks again emericanx
