I open stock recovery and explore the folder of the update on sdcard. But there are no select-able packages. every folder goes to a dead end with no choice of a file only folders. I was hoping someone could help i dont want to have to root.

did you copy the zip file to the external sd card or the phones internal memory?

I did everything in the instructions, went to stock .211, got OTA rootkeeper and temp unrooted, dragged the zip file onto my SD card- but every time I try to flash it in stock recovery it keeps saying "assert failed: mount("ext3" . "MTD" . "system" . "/system") E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7) Instalation aborted.

What do I do to be able to install the update?

If you're on complete stock with no bloat frozen or deleted and all system files unaltered try "wipe cache" while in recovery, then try again. If that doesn't work I would fastboot and do over. Might be wise to check the MD5 as well and make sure you're using original OEM cable

I've most likely surrendered my root but thought I would ask. I used the OTA rootkeeper before running the JB update. While applying the JB update I was getting errors with the GuidedTours.apk. Did some googling and found out the .apk was missing. Used RDSLite and got back to Stock ICS (i think this is where I should have re-rooted). From there the update was applied and I was on JB. Great. Tried to resore root with OTA and it doesn't look like it knows anything about ever being rooted. Just for fun tried matt's script but without a /su-backup to restore from it no work. Everything I've read says there is no going back to ICS? Not even with RDS? looks like I'm waiting for a new exploit. Any other options?

I believe your only option now is to wait for fastboot files and root for JB

Did you try Matt's "RestoreRoot" utility?

It sounds like he didn't root the second time around so there may be nothing to "reroot"

Wouldn't hurt to try though
