Does anyone know how it works? I'm curious to see what's being exploited. Also, is the root file source available somewhere?

Hahaha well the reason I ask is because I've been trying to find a root and had no luck. Something tells me that Dan saw the root bounty yesterday, spent a few hours, and found a root -__-

I don't think a public explanation of how it works exactly will help the cause of Motorola not patching it before the official OTA :D

I'm sure someone can PM you once we know you aren't Motorola lol

Lol ask 24v. He knows me, as well as jester.

And I know he didn't do it for the money, just stating how freaking fast he probably found it.

. It is untested as I don't have a razr in JB to try. If it needs fixing, please, let us know and we can iron it out. Thanks

Razr Blade, an exploit that gains root access on the Motorola Droid Razr running 4.1 (Jelly Bean), is available at:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

To run the exploit (currently Windows only), download and extract the entire zip file, ensure your device is connected via USB, ensure you have the latest Motorola USB drivers installed, ensure USB debugging mode is enabled on your device, and double-click "run.bat".

PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE EXPLOIT CAREFULLY.

Please do not re-host or modify this exploit without asking permission first, since this makes support difficult and annoying.

Enjoy,
Dan (@djrbliss)

It would be sort of funny if you included a modified Smart Actions apk with option 1) Root this RAZR. Just sayin'.
If you PM me here, I'll get it eventually, but I'm constantly on the move. If you need to reach me more quickly, email me at stealthmouse@gmail.com and add DroidRZR PERSONAL MESSAGE to subject line. Thanks!

Cool! Thanks. This worked even with Soft-Brick. Just had to hold down Vol Up and Down on every reboot, then select Normal Boot.

Dang it I missed the party cause of the flu that's going around my house at the moment... lol. Dan was always in the back of my mind when thinking of a root exploit for JB and no wonder... He certainly is king of root!

I was always pretty sure that a method would be found. After all there will always be a back door to security no matter how hard they try to lock it down. It just needed a total genius like Dan to cut the right key! Many thanks my friend. :)

Now for my predicament... Do I take a leak an relieve myself of a dual boot device and just go all in? Or do I keep ICS alongside of JB roms? Decisions decisions... decisions lol.

Either way, Verizon can kiss my rear end once again!

Knowing how Moto has a reputation for trying to lock things down tighter than a promiscuous teenage girl forced into a nunnery by her well intending parents, I'm wondering if they leaked the OTA to see how it would be rooted so they could further lock it down for the official OTA. I wouldn't put it past those sneaky bastards.

And as a side note, if the exploit worked for you, consider donating to Dan, he definitely deserves it! Getting root 3 weeks after an unofficial OTA is leaked is phenomenal!

Even if they did I'm sure another key can be cut.

You are the man! Thanks for the exploit. How in the world did you discover this one using Smart Actions? Too funny!!!

Loving my rooted JB OG RAZR. I'm still going to wait until the official OTA comes out and a root exploit for it before I upgrade my RAZR MAXX. As it is, I'm enjoying JB on my Nexus 7, so I'm not so quick to having it on my phone for now. ;)

Wow.. All the "Superuser" clicks you have to do. I almost missed a few because I didn't know they would be there! But, with a little luck, I got the "WiFi Tether for root user" working like a charm, affffter I sifted through all the damn options. Oh lordy the options you can do with the device now! Thanks Dan! Just as soon as I get paid, I will be donating to you!
