The most obviously story was the one that caused the most waves on our forum...

Voted.

Unlock(able) bootloader, sold directly by Google and screw VZW and their $15 / month surcharge. *AND* if I buy from Google directly I keep my VZW unlimited until 2014.

Score!

All 4 major US carriers. Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Running at LEAST 4.2. Unlockable for sure on Sprint and T-Mobile at least... I don't see why not AT&T too if Moto/Google are persuasive enough.

Please do not Personal Message me for help or troubleshooting. They will be ignored. Post in threads or start one in Q&A sections.

I'll need it unlockable on VZW without paying that ridiculous surcharge.

I'm extremely against the $15/month as well, but just food for thought: With a subsidized phone you're paying a fee every month yes? If I buy the phone from the Play store, wouldn't VZW have to take that fee off (probably with some persuasion)? If the final outcome is still in the same general area as my current bill, w/e I'll go for it. Of course this is assuming VZW still charges the $15/mo if you buy it already unlocked from Google.

I have zero interest in this. It may as well be an iPhone. VZW will NEVER go for a pre-unlocked LTE phone, for proprietary network reasons. VZW's biggest concern is always the integrity of their network.

Not to totally change the subject but how hard are Samsung phones to unlock. I can't remember but m pretty sure I had the charge at one point. I reneger using Odin or something like that. Not to difficult.

My XT912M is doing just fine, no reason to change it yet. In fact, I plan to keep it around as a wifi handheld once I am done using it on cellular frequencies. I would definately like to get my hands on a Moto X to check it out, but I doubt that I will purchase one. Perhaps the X2 will earn a spot on my belt.

What I really want to see more than any particular device, is for the cellular carriers in this country to get split into two separate levels. One level being network providers, and the second being service provders. Put an end to "we have <carrier> because they have the best service around here", or worse yet, "we can only get signal with <carrier> at <location>, so that is who we use".

These companies are already so fragmented at this point, it would just be one more level. (Even though they all carry the Verizon moniker, the services for cellular, landline, internet, television, fios, are actually separate companies.) Every carrier could still exist on either or both levels, but they would be separate entities. The Network providers job would be just to ensure coverage and maintain the network. The Service providers would be where the customers select access packages, and would have to compete on actual package quality, rather than just "coverage".

I voted that I'm totally in but based on that laundry list I don't think that there is any way that this beast comes to VZW (in the article's iteration, at least).
