For this reason, I waited a couple months before I unlocked just to ensure that the hardware was working properly. I think that the warranty issue is what kills it for most. Yes, it is tough to pay full retail, but it is tough swallowing the cost knowing that it is a one way street. If you spend all you got and don't already have a backup, it is a good sized risk.

One thing that those of us that have purchased a dev edition has done is to discredit the arguement that the carrier presents that unlocked bootloader equipment presents trouble for the network.

That argument was discredited the day they offered them in the first place.

True, but they also state that they do this to control the amount of potential interference on the network.

I'll probably buy a dev device as my next, simply to prevent having to renew my contract, since I can no longer get 10GB of data a month for $50

I don't know much about this. I am probably not an example of the average user. I have a philosophy that if I own it, I want to control it. I paid a lot for my phone with Verizon. It has many nice apps and service. I want that. I also want to be able to play with it and get rid of stuff wasting my battery resources.

Therefore, I would be against a purchase of a Dev Phone. I think we have a good thing going and I am able to make contributions when others can't. So I try to be generous. And, I hope to be able to learn so much more in the future from the relationships that are being developed.

Please do not turn to Dev Phones only. I would not buy.

I`ll say this "I like to do what ever I want with what is mine" being able to hack your phone and put different ROMS on it every day if I so choose is just plain awesome!! the only way to beat the man is to play his game so let them keep selling phones with locked boot loaders and people will keep finding a way in...thank God for those people.........DROID!!

Amen to that idea. All I risk is loss of free warranty service. I will pay for their help, if I need it. But take out that stupid Golf and NFL Football and all those other games. The idea of being required to constantly choose to ignore prompts for downloading the latest update on games is horrific. There is no end to it and I pay for the amount of data I use. With that in mind, I should be able to refuse download and not be prompted continuously to do so.

Hmmm Pet Peeve :-)
