Damn, the 9.18.79 OTA update keeps failing on me!

I have an rooted RAZR Maxx HD with 9.16.6 on it. I tried to update both with Voodoo OTA and without, but either way it fails, The update downloads just fine, but gives "update failed" message after coming back from the reboot. I'm worried I was too aggressive when cleaning out Verizon crap (using RootAppDelete) when I first rooted. I didn't think I removed anything system update-related, but now I'm not so sure.

Any ideas?

So the same thing has happened to me and btw i didnt go too crazy on deleting stock apps so i sure your ok. but we do need to resolve this. does anyone know if i should unroot then try to install the update? or is it possible to wait for another method of rooting then up root from the root i have now. total noob talk eh? lol

Well it looks like the update is checking for AcousticWarning.APK which I deleted. I know, I know, l.should freeze apps, not uninstall them...lesson learned!!

Here's first error line from cache/recovery/last_log:

Verifying current system...failed to stat "/"system/app/AcousticWarning.apk": No such file or directory

In the meantime, can someone send me their AcousticWarning.APK? I can't seem to find a copy on the interwebs. :(

So what exactly were the steps you took bikr. I don't know why it fails but it does. I tried unrooting and installing the update with no avail.

Updated to 9.18.79.

Bootloader still unlocked and kept root access.

You guys aren't trying to flash this update in TWRP or CWM, right? You need to be on the stock Moto recovery.

It can be done be done in TWRP... I had to have a completely stock flash of 9.16.9 to do so before the 9.20.1though. I did as a side load through recovery with the update on the root of my SD card not in the system cache. I had to reflash twrp after (I cheated and used Dan's RAZR HD utility for this) but my flash of the update was successful.

End of Line.

Interesting. Well then I can't comment on why they're having a problem.

Admittedly it was my second attempt... But the first time I let the phone do it automatically, I think that's where my mistake was, the second time I made sure the phone cache was empty after setting the update on the root of the internal SD and went from there.

End of Line.

I think that is wrong. I was getting the 9.20 from my Razr Maxx HD, but kept halting in recovery and failed. I used the Razr HD Utility to redo my phone and then got the 9.18 update instead.
