second try, failed again.....I noticed after the failure, I got the safestrap boot screen when the phone rebooted. Should I see that with no root?
If you have safe strap it won't work. Either use Matts 1.7 utility or fast boot and try again.

All links to the 1.7 utility are broken. All I can find is 1.6...
Use his fail safe edition. And please follow his directions to the letter.

How about I uninstall safestrap and install bootstrap. Would I then be able to take the OTA update?
You can't have a custom recovery at all. And uninstalling safestrap doesn't do anything. The files go deep into the system. I suggest just Fast booting to a clean 181 and the get the OTa

I can flash .181 using RSD Lite, then take OTA ICS .211 update, then use Matts 1.7 utility to root. Correct? Or is there an easier way?
Yeah there is an easier way. Use matts 1.7 to go back to 181 also. Option 1 should work for you.

Hey man... I tried everything under the sun. Except one thing. I had a backup of safestrap so if you made a backup its actually still going to function. You'll have to return to backup then delete and wipe data and then maybe... just maybe.. it will possibly save from having to fast boot. But. I received the ota unexpectedly earlier than most and idroidguy was in here when I told him and as I had already known better I tried several times...lol fast boot...hope this helps...How about I uninstall safestrap and install bootstrap. Would I then be able to take the OTA update?

I tried to set up Avast Mobile Security after the ICS upgrade, but ran into problems when Anti-Theft said it couldn't run because there was some new crap called "Verizon Remote Diagnostics" running at a very high priority. How can I get past this?
Try cerebus. Best anti theft hands down. Worth paying for it, too.
