I haven't done anything with xml yet; I want to get good at editing png files first.
It was like 4 am when I was messing with it last night so I probably just overlooked something when I was doing it.
There is a wealth of info that I've found on this by looking through google. Sometimes it's hard to sift through it to find exactly what I'm looking for. My problem is patience though. I have none! lol

You should definitely make the jump to Photoshop. I used Gimp for months and refused to go to Photoshop because things were different. Now I am glad I did because Photoshop is way better .

First screenshots...got a log way to go, but it's a start. Honestly, I didn't think I'd actually get this far with it!

Looks good so far. I like the shade of blue you're going with. Obviously you're getting the grasp of things so it'll get easier for you. Which will lead to quicker progress. Feel free to hit me up via pm if you get stuck somewhere

Big Daddy, at the risk of angering you enough that you change my avatar to stealthtoad or stealthworm, I will tell you in all earnestness that we Cali-fornians are just too hardy for a few tremblers and wildfires. I pray each day to the gods of aloha, to deliver to us, the nearly immortal Cali peeps, some tsunamis and fire-breathing mountains of lava and pestilence. But alas, it is not to be, for the gods are sore afraid of our warrior spirit fetishes (2nd def'n, peeps). Where was I? Ah, yes. Well, I feel I am safe, protected by uber San Diego / Santa Cruz, known widely in these parts as simply Matt the Great, and the wondrous and mystical Alice, who has yet to say an unkind word to anyone, and is thus free from sin (ie, she can do whatever she damn well pleases). Also, her art RAWKS.

PS I do like your breaks better. They're like slow rolling thunder that goes on forever, while ours are like a shotgun blast, then you have to start over - ugh.

Yeah doing the battery percents just plain suck. It is just one long grind if you are doing anything more than just changing the color.

I have discovered that copy & paste is my best tool for it though. Still, it IS a long, slow, drawn-out time consuming process....I've been working on them for a couple of hours and I have only done 8 of them. Part of that time was spent trying to figure out how to get them set up right though.

If you use Photoshop you can set up styles to make the process a lot easier. Photoshop does take a while to get use to (all the shortcuts, etc), but I think it will make it a lot easier in the long run.

Your theme looks good so far! I am in the same boat as you and learning as I go. I look forward to see your theme done!

What i do when i make battery icons is set up guides soo everything lines up. Then i make one text layer that i change every save, and one folder with the base of my design in it, then a folder with the fill part of the image. Then it's pretty much saving one, then changing the number, and moving the fill a bit and saving again. Once i have my design made it takes me about 45 mins or so to save them all. What sucks is wanting to change something after you saved 100 of them, then having to save them all again lol. I do that all the time with images. But it's pretty easy, just sucks saving them all. Miui is way easier, all the battery icons are on one image, instead of 100 separate images. As far as how long it takes to make a theme. It takes me 2 weekends to make a complete go launcher theme. A theme engine or miui theme, over 200 hours or so. So like 2 months. That's making most of the stuff from scratch and mostly original art work, and color editing here and there. Making original designs chews up the time really quick. What ate up the most time for me was learning were everything was on ics when i just learned were everything was in GB. Gb was so easy, all most everything was a png. Anyways good luck with your theme.
