Recently, researchers found out that out of the 13,500 apps they looked at almost 8% of them were guilty of leaking private bank account info and personal logins.
Scientists from the University of Leibniz in Hanover and the Phillipps University of Marburg found that by making a fake wifi hotspot and using a top secret tool, they were able to effortlessly steal all account login info by monitoring the traffic sent from the device connected to their mod squad setup.
They were also able to trick security apps into giving false positives on apps that were perfectly fine amongst other things.
One of the most surprising, if not downright disturbing operations they were able to perform was the hijacking of transferred funds. As in, sending your hard earned money meant to pay for something, to another account without you knowing anything until you look at your monthly statement.
A later experiment conducted to determine whether or not people were actually aware of the security level of their phones showed that out of 754 people, about half of them were not even aware of the various security states built into their web browser of choice.
What about you?
How would you have performed in that test?
