There is no need to fastboot prior to using this. As long as you can get safestrap installed then your all set. Follow post #70.

Sent from my Droid Razr Maxx on JB Christmas Gift from Verizon :). Tried it first using dual boot method. (JB Dual Boot - XT912)

Thanks! Now I have another ? The error on this screenshot would be driver related right? That's my guess.

No it's not currently installed. Should I try that to see if it recognizes my RAZR in fastboot mode?

Yeah try it. It may install the proper files for moto-fastboot.

That error message is usually an indication of the zip not being extracted correctly. moto-fastboot is contained in the zip and if you extract the entire contents to a folder and run the utility from there, it should work. The utility looks for moto-fastboot in the same folder. This is an indication that it's not there. A driver issue would cause the computer to not recognize the phone and you'd get an error to that effect. Make sure you're extracting the ENTIRE contents of the zip all to the same folder. Then run the utility from there.

Your not in the folder where you extracted the utility so it cannot find the executable file. Change into that directory and re-run the script.

Thanks for the help everyone. I redownloaded and re-unzipped dual boot. As soon as I get charged up I'll give it another try.

Well, I believe you can still use this to run ICS ROMS via SafeStrap 3.07. You just can't fastboot your device back until some JB FB files are leaked. You still should reap the benefits as well. I'm pretty sure developers can integrate "root," "su," and "superuser.apk" into custom JB ROMs they just can't literally root the device while running the OTA itself. Though then again, this is all in theory. ;)

Just out of curiosity and my longing for cm and aokp I tried flashing the ICS kernel coming from the jb ota on ss311. It failed, some kind of verification failure upon writing the kernel. Then of course came the fastboot flash failure softbrick. However I was able to reflash the jb kernel with the utility and get back up and running. Any chance of being able to flash and downgrade the kernel in the future?

Nice utility! But I had upgraded my 912 to JB already before I saw this. I tried to replace with the ICS 211 kernel, but couldn't work.
When flashing in the 211 kernel, it reported failure when flashing the boot file. While it still said now working under ICS kernel. However not only the cm10 in slot one didn't work, but also the JB in stock slot. Is there any possibility to install CM 10 or other ICS rom under JB system? thx

That is because it is written to bypass the ICS Kernel not the opposite. You have to still be on ICS to my knowledge.

Its a batch file.

If it fails, it's still going to run the next line in the batch file because there is no way to run a check if it actually went through while in fast boot mode.

Please read the OP before running utilities like this or flashing OTAs because you may leave yourself in a predicament like you are now.

The OTA method is not fastbootable.
