So the only problem is getting it to be able to write the files in the system folder? Is it possible that they fixed it so it could not be done?
Looks like I keep ICS 4.0.4 on my MAXX for now. Thank goodness my Nexus 7 is coming in tomorrow.

The issue is that the /system folder on the phone is read-only. You can only make it writeable if you have root access. And you can only gain root access if you can write a file (the 'su' program) to the /system folder. So it's a catch-22.
The various root exploits trick the operating system into giving temporary write access to the folder. Once you have that, you can copy the su binary where it needs to be and do some further changes to get permanent root.
If you read the batch file, you can see it's just a bunch of 'adb' commands.

You won't see the phone's internal filesystem as a mounted drive in Explorer. The only way to manipulate the internal filesystem is through ADB. You use "adb push" to send a file from your pc to a directory on the phone.

Thanks! That helps a lot.
So, what are the possible ways to "trick" the system to let you write a root file?

EDIT: Guess this might be what your new script is based on. in any case, others might want to check it out.

Edit: it is in fact for the jelly bean. Dnt know what the difference is besides it being a gsm phone. But wouldn't think the securities would be that different
