And this is where companies like Straight Talk (I've used them w/ my Galaxy Note) will shine.

VZW charging the outlandish fees they do and then cutting the unlimited grandfathered data users out. It's the only reason I still bite my tongue and pay my $230 bill each month for two grandfathered lines.

American cellphone companies have us by the balls. WTF is the point of having a smartphone that does everything, when all you will eventually be able to do is make phone calls and text on it!?!?! Absurd. My contracts are up in July and October of 2013. If they do indeed cancel my unlimited I am leaving them for good.

After yesterday’s announcement by Verizon CFO Fran Shammo that

roll out, that customers will be informed ahead of time so that they can evaluate their choices:
[indent=1]

As we have stated publicly, Verizon Wireless has been evaluating its data pricing structure for some time. Customers have told us that they want to share data, similar to how they share minutes today. We are working on plans to provide customers with that option later this year.
We will share specific details of the plans and any related policy changes well in advance of their introduction, so customers will have time to evaluate their choices and make the best decisions for their wireless service. It is our goal and commitment to continue to provide customers with the same high value service they have come to expect from Verizon Wireless.

I’ll let you decipher that.

It says you will move to shared data when signing a new contract. But you can keep unlimited if you stay off contract and purchase phones at full retail

I can live with this. Worth full price to keep my data.

OK, i guess I'm back to my plan to purchase an Asus 700t when they come out. I'll just keep my 4G Razr Maxx and never upgrade it. I'll have the unlimited data and tethering for the tablet.

Thats what ebay is for. I have yet to keep the same phone for two years. Thats where I got my Droid Razr Maxx and that is where I will continue to get my phones if it means I can keep my unlimited data.

If you get phones from somewhere else and add them to your plan won't that cause your contract to end making you have to renew your plan forcing the new data plan on you.

Not necessarily. As long as you don't get a discounted phone through verizon or one of their sales agents.

I think it's still a little unclear. We know if you upgrade with a discount and sign a new contract, you will lose unlimited. We know if you upgrade and pay full retail you can keep unlimited if you already have it. I don't think we know for sure what happens if you buy a replacement phone from Ebay or somewhere and put it on your existing unlimited plan replacing your old phone. I also don't think it's clear what happens if you simply let your contract expire and keep your old phone without a new contract.

"When the new options are introduced, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to our customers purchasing handsets and signing a new contract. Customers who choose to purchase phones at full retail price and are currently on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan. The same pricing and policies will apply to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones."

When you buy a phone from someplace else and activate it then it does not affect your contract or no contract if you don't have one. Should be good to keep unlimited

It's the new kinder, gentler, more eco-friendly, limited unlimited data plan. You know, less IS more, right?
