Well, I guess I could try another computer.  I don't know why that thought didn't occur to me.  I'll go try on my laptop and be right back.

Success!

Ah-ha!  I'm blatantly guessing with no real rhyme or reason, but I think it wasn't working because when I installed the drivers, I also told the stupid moto icon thing in the corner to shut up and do nothing whenever things were plugged in.  That would be the only difference between the two.

Or maybe just the drivers installed funny.  That's totally possible too.

So my suggestion when all else fails is: Reinstall moto drivers or try a new computer :p

Thanks for all of your help. :D

I had root 2 OTAs ago (i forget the number) and when i got 9.16.9 i lost root.  The motochopper would not re-root because the su files were still there.

Is there a way to use files from the 9.16.9 FXZ to re-root before i take the OTA to 9.18.79?  I just want to make sure before i take the update and try motochopper 1.2 and lose the ability to unlock the bootloader once and for all.

Thanks.

Flash the system.img from 9.16.9, then use the original motochopper (not 1.2), then use motoapocalypse to unlock.

Thanks for all hard work to all those that rooted the HD.  I just got a Maxx HD as a replacement to my old Razr Maxx original.  Love the new phone.  Unfortunately it came with 9.20.1 so no unlocked BL for me.  I had to try 2 computers before the second one installed the drivers and all correctly.  Then I had to run the motochopper twice to get root access.  Root didn't take the first time for some reason.  Now I'm rooted with the hotspot exploit.  Thanks!

Ths question is for SamuriHL, or livinginkaos and or tucstwo, or all three.  Sorry for this eBook.

Firrst, I'd like to thank y'all for your amazing knowledge, committment, incredible patience and willingness to help out the many novice members with their phones. I have (2) Maxx HD and successfully rooted one with Script/Utility a s/w 9.18.79 phone for WiFi tether.

I know this Q has been asked and answered 100 if not 1000x before, (forgive me if you've already addressed this in this thread), but I would like confirmation from anyone or all if you have time..Really not suggesting that I don't trust everthing I read, but I really don't.  There's some craZy info and advice floating around these boards that can brick a tank!

Maxx HD XT926 #2; s/w 9.16.9 (haven't taken July OTA 9.18.79) and you may already know why.  I'm currently rooted, unlocked (from what I understand, not a problem for any OTA) but custom TWRP recovery which I believe is reason why no July OTA or any future OTA's.

My Q:  If Verizon and Moto are for real (not holding breath) with the JB 4.3 OTA push (skipping over 4.2) in about a month, is it fact that to get this OTA push I would "Temp-Unroot", and Flash back to "Stock Recovery.img"?  Of course no custom roms installed and or kernels or system file changes etc...just some safe bloat removal.

Fire away...

Thanks again

Screw that.  :)  Wait for the FXZ to come out and use my universal FXZ script to update.  Re-flash TWRP when it's done, flash supersu zip in TWRP, and call it a day.  You could do that now with 79 if you so chose.  My universal script does NOT flash the TZ partition, so, if you want that for whatever reason you'll have to flash it manually.  That's where they patched the unlock exploit so I don't flash it for...obvious reasons.  :)

OK so I went into command prompt and typed in cd C:motochopper, then I did run.bat. This is what I got:

OH BY THE WAY, the system cannot find the path specified is something that is going on when I run command line in general, I have an ANSCII-color thing installed for my minecraft server and it spits that out.

The system cannot find the path specified.

C:WindowsSystem32>cd C:motochopper

Quick question as I'm sure its been asked: did you unzip all files and also download the driver and put them all in one file? I remember making the mistake of not doing all of this when I first tried to root my razr Maxx over a year ago.

something got goofed in the conversion is my guess. I have another member with a similar issue using a Mac and with the M.

I have a Mac, and have never had to use the dos2unix command. The scripts have always worked before....having said that, I didnt use this one as I am unlocked.

Let me know if I can help any, but will take a look at the script.

Alright, I found the error. The four IF statements checking the system.img files are all missing the closing FI command. So add the fi's in as follows:

Currently its like this:

if [ -f system/system.img ]; then
echo "[*] Flashing system.img..."
if [ -f system/system.img.ext4 ]; then
echo "[*] Flashing system.img.ext4..."

if [ -f system/system.img ]; then
$fastboot flash system system.img
if [ -f system/system.img.ext4 ]; then
$fastboot flash system system.img.ext4

NOW ADD IN THE fi's:

if [ -f system/system.img ]; then
echo "[*] Flashing system.img..."
fi
if [ -f system/system.img.ext4 ]; then
echo "[*] Flashing system.img.ext4..."
fi

if [ -f system/system.img ]; then
$fastboot flash system system.img
fi
if [ -f system/system.img.ext4 ]; then
$fastboot flash system system.img.ext4
fi

Save the file and should be good.
