OK, so P3Droid asked last night for a user who had a virgin RAZR that was never rooted. I posted in the chat box, and matt and others responded to P3.

Here is what his research confirmed:

There is a security check on newer Moto phones, if you ever root your phone they know.

To check root status check recovery. qe 0/0 = virgin qe 0/1 = rooted in past qe 1/1 = rooted right now. You can't reset the counter.

The recovery counter doesn't send info anywhere, but if you send phone back/in it can be checked quickly and easily

Disconcerting, to say the least.

I know for a fact that this is also on our BIONICs.

Considering the stock Blockbuster Video Bloatware App as well as Google Video comes right out and says you can't use it because your rooted I figure they probably know in real time everytime you root /unroot if they want to.

Damn, I want to have my RAZR back badly, sounds like fun stuff to mess with! (And I wonder what mine would show...)

It must be something they included in ICS so I guess we can find what set the flags, how they detect it, and how they set it. Maybe we can under both?

I saw P3Droid doing some testing/checking for Bionics as well very early this morning. On ICS Bionics the qe setting is also present. I've got it in my Stock Recovery, running leak 6.7.230

Of course I'm qe=1/1

Maybe evo shifts are different or sprint is dumb because when I was on sprint my phone was defective. I had rooted it but that was back when all I rooted for was to delete bloatware. I restored to factory and removed all traces of root that I could find and they troubleshooted and sent me a replacement. Even told me they had to verify it wasn't rooted. They confirmed no root lol

Lol I will say again since everyone seems so worried about it.

It's a crash log, nothing more. No need to freak out.

No one is freaking out and this isn't a crash log.

It's a counter that tracks whether or not you've been rooted.

Just good info to know.

Well, my warranty expires in T-minus 12 days, so I'm not too worried, and I am pretty sure that I will not be using it to get a replacement for my phone in the next twelve days, so I could care less that they have a counter.

I am, however, curious to know how it actually goes about verifying the presence if root, and if we can bypass the detection method on future phones....

Notice, I did not say reset, I said bypass, so that the counter never increments....

John I'm curious also. Has anyone tried a full fxz not hob back to 905 or even 902 to see if it resets. That would ease a lot of peeps minds (mine). I still have till Dec with warranty. Like I said earlier tho, I usually send mine back in a pine box.
